Hi CdaMVvWgS, do you speak Nauruan? If you do (or a little bit), go for a time to Wikipedia:Tekawa ewak (village pump / le bistro / de kroeg/ Ich brauche Hilfe...). And of course also to its discussion-page. Is it correct Nauruan or not? Correct or leave your comments in the ewak or on its discussion-page. Thanks Belgian man 18:24, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Book[edit source]

Hi, I've read on Meta Wiki that you received a grammar-book. May I know how you've received it? It likes me very interesting to have one. I must know some grammatical rules. Belgian man 15:24, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I bought it here, but there's currently just one exemplar remaining. If you want it, you should hurry ;) Ekamwawir Omo -- CdaMVvWgS 14:00, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Sysop[edit source]

  • You are sysop now, congratulations, I hope you will be a little more active as sysop ... Greets Belgian man 12:01, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Note: You cannot put your candidatship for admin on na:wikt here. You should do it there, here we haven't any place for it. The community of na:wiktionary can also vote. I know it's a very very very little community, but despite that fact there is no reason or right to vote here for two adminships, you understand. P.S.: On na:wikt I am active as wikt:User:S.V.E.T., even on Finnish, Dutch and Italian wiktionaries. Greets Belgian man 17:51, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the adminship. I'll surely be more active in July, when I'll be translating the Nauruan grammar into German (and maybe learning it a little bit). But at the moment I'm busy at school (I'm still a pupil). Ekamwawir Omo ;) -- CdaMVvWgS 19:54, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
All right, that will be good. Belgian man 14:38, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

Tekawa ewak[edit source]

You shouldn't put the embassy in the village pump. On other projects they also don't. Temporary (until we know how do you say embassy in Nauruan), I've put the embassy on Wikipedia:Embassy. And in future, please try to discuss first if you want be the ambassador; that's rather important for decise alone. Belgian man 17:55, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

OK, just tell me if someone's interested too to be ambassador. Ekamwawir Omo -- CdaMVvWgS 19:54, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

Listing[edit source]

Please, try to list pages before deleting... Ekamawir Omo, Belgian man 9 July 2005 08:26 (UTC)

It's unnecessary bureaucracy when every little mistake has to be listed before deleting. If the mistake is obvious and can be corrected easily by an admin (as I did with "Rupublik Congo" and "Republik Congo"), then I won't list it because it's just unnecessary. I hope you'll understand my actions. Btw, good work with MediaWiki templates; looks fine. Ekamawir Omo -- CdaMVvWgS 9 July 2005 12:11 (UTC)
OK and thanks! Ekamawir Omo, Belgian man 18:15, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
I agree; obvious deletion candidates shouldn't need to be listed… Jon Harald Søby (talk, contrib) 12:01, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
I'd say the same is for commercial things (like this project which hadn't to do anything with Nauruan nor Wikipedia). Such articles and images can be deleted without being listed, because that's just spam. Ekamawir Omo -- CdaMVvWgS 14:23, 12 July 2005 (UTC)
I've made Wikipedia:Animwen iyababa#Animwen iyababa ngage to delete articles (abuse, emptiness) in a few minutes... Good? Ekamawir Omo, Belgian man 17:37, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

Wordlist[edit source]

Hi Cdamvvwgs,

Actually, I've made this list myself, so you won't find it anywhere but at Wikipedia.

Node ue 08:59, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

But what's the source of your word list? How did you count the words etc. ?? The list is very interesting. Ekamawir omo -- CdaMVvWgS 21:35, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
I see You've missed it. Now are two sources that Node ue used (which I've seen so far ;)- http://www.watchtower.org/languages/nr/library/rq/index.htm (Jehovan's Witnesses) and Naoero Bwemia (probably it's spelling, sorry, I mean text of the national anthem ;). Node ue wrote it somewhere... --Artur Lion 22:59, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
Yes, this is correct. I also added a short story about a crab from a book I have (written in modern orthography). For word count statistics, I used this site. I also did some parallel corpus analysis (with the Nauruan and English versions of parts of the Jehova's Witnesses website), for that I used the software ParaCorp. However, I didn't add all of the corpus for analysis yet, just 3 pages (there are perhaps 25 total). When I finish adding all of them, it should be much easier to determine from careful analysis the meanings of each word (especially those of a higher frequency), and also glean some grammatical information.
In linguistics, parallel corpus analysis can be a great tool. The longer the text is, the easier it is to analyse. Nauruan seemed to me to be the best to start with because this Wikipedia obviously needs a more complete vocabulary and grammar to work from.

Node ue 00:03, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

Hey! This is the page I mentioned on Wikipedia talk:Domaneab (you know, the one which I once found, but didn't save the address). ok, everything's clear yet. Ekamawir omo -- CdaMVvWgS 16:07, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

Edit[edit source]

Hi CdaMVvWgS, what do you think is this? Maybe it is just vandalism, but it can also be that it is a real Nauruan who corrected the names... If it is the second assumption, he mixed up the first and the second places of the list. Belgian man 17:39, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

To me, that seems legitimate. The coutries whose names are changed, are all relatively close to Nauru, and the names do sound very Nauruan (after all, what vandals try to make it look real like that?). / Jon Harald Søby 17:45, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
Well, I never heard of these translations (although I meant to already have heard of "Tsiene"...), but because the same IP address gave us some grammatical information (which seem to be correct, because the same info is contained in my Kayser grammar!), I'd say the translations are legitimate. Finally there are some other translations for country names after just "Naoero" and "Uirope". I hope that IP address will come back here and register as a user to contribute, to share his/her knowledge about Nauruan with us and help us to write good basical articles...! Ekamawir Omo -- CdaMVvWgS 19:53, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
Indeed. Thanks for the reaction. Belgian man 18:28, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Sorry guys, It was me who made the edits to the country names. Sorry for putting them in the wrong places. Here's some more info - i don't know where to put it though. I hope you guys can work it out. In Nauru, there are twelve tribes. These are the names and meanings of the tribes:

Deiboe = larger, black fish Emangum = the remainder of the torch Emea = good eyes Eano = the old, the first Eamwit = eel, Muräne Eamwidara = the orphan (without father and mother) Eamwitimwit = little green grasshopper Eaoru = rain piper Ranibok = drink water Irutsi = beach grass Iruwa = strange Iwi = head-Laus

Incidentally, my grandfather is a Ranibok, grandmother a Eamwit, my father a eamwit and my mother and i are Iruwa. You inherit your tribe from your mother's side. Also, Iwi and Irutsi are extinct now. If you want a history lesson on how that happened, let me know. Also, these are the ways in which we relate to each other in Nauru. 23 in total:

1. oeiden = the betrothed to. oeideni = the relationship of betrothed ENGLISH = FIANCEE 2. agen = the spouse of. ageni = the relationship of spouse ENGLISH = SPOUSE 3. tongin = the father of. Tongini = the relationship of father and child ENGLISH = FATHER 4. innen = the mother of. Inneni = the relationship of mother and child ENGLSIH = MOTHER 5. ngain = the child of. Ngaina = the relationship of child and parents ENGLISH = OFFSPRING 6. edin = the sibling of. Edini = relationship of brother and sister of the same tribe ENGLISH= SIBLING 7. auten = boy or girl cousins, children of sister and brother. Auteni = relationship of boy or girl cousins of a different tribe. ENGLISH = COUSIN OR HALF BROTHER/SISTER 8. Jiben = father or mother-in-law of. Jibeni = relationship of husband and father/mother-in-law. ENGLISH = IN-LAW 9. Ibuin = grandparent of. Ibuini = relationship of grandparent and grandchild. ENGLISH = GRANDPARENT AND GRANDSON. 10. Agen mwan = brother in law of. Agegemwani = to be in the relationship of husband and wife’s brother. 11. Agen en = sister-in-law of. Agegeneni = to be in the relationship of wife and her brothers wife. 12. Erat tongin = the nephew of. Eratongini = to be in relation as nephew and uncle. 13. Erat innen = the aunt of. Eratinneni = to be in relation as aunt and niece. 14. Eran ngain = the nephew of. Ereran ngaini = to be related as uncle and nephew. 15. Eran agen = sister-in-law of. Eran ageni = relationship of husband to his wife’s sister 16. Erat edin = first cousin. Erat ededini = relationship of cousins (sons of two brothers); two neices (daughters of two sisters) 17. Erat ibun = grand uncle (father’s side). Erat ibuni – the relationship of grand uncle on father’s side and grand nephew. 18. Erat jiben = wife’s aunt. Erat jibeni = relationship of husband and his wife’s aunt on her mother’s side. 19. Erat auten = 20. Amin ubwien = relationship in general. Aminubwieni = being related. 21. Aroen = Mother’s brother. Aroeni = the relationship of nephew and uncle on his mother’s side. 22. Aroen = member of the same tribe. Aroeni = the relationship between people of the same tribe. 23. Aipo = incestuous relationship of the same family.

Cheers, Meibitobure.

Admin[edit source]

Hi CdaMVvWgS, it is absolutely not allowed to propose other users for the adminship... I know Meibtitobure is a good and important user but who says he want to be an admin? As admin, you've also some responsibility... I hope you don't make such an error anymore as admin :-) Ekamawir omo, Belgian man 18:21, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

Free encyclopedia[edit source]

Hi CdaMVvWgS, You said « we need a translation of "free" in the meaning of "it costs nothing", not in the meaning of "to be free, to be liberated" ». In fact, the situation is just the opposite -- see m:Help:How to start a new Wikipedia:

Please note that for the translation of the free encyclopedia that free in this sense means as in "not restricted", because English does not have different words for free (price - "gratis") and free (freedom). This sometimes makes people confused. If your language has different words for free (as in price) and free (as in freedom), please use the one that refers to freedom.

According to this, I would like to change the logo to "Entsaikropidiya emenengame", if you have no objection. --Node ue 04:24, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

I once read somewhere on the English Wikipedia that it should be translated in the meaning of "it costs nothing", because the content of Wikipedia doesn't really cost anything. But well, in that case, change it. I made a request on en:User talk:Nohat for a high resolution image of our logo. By the way, it is called "Entsikropidiya", not "Entsaikropidiya" (that apparently was a mistake by Meibitobure, because there must be an "i" after "ts". Thanks and greetings -- CdaMVvWgS 05:17, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

Science pearls[edit source]

Hi,

I address you as the ambassador of your wikipedia. Please notice the above project.

This project, more than other projects, will benefit from inter-wiki cooperation. Can you post a message regarding this project at your wikipedia village pump?

Thanks for your help, APH from the English wiki

New main page?[edit source]

Hi CdaMVvWgS, do you found it a good idea to use this as new main page? Please leave comments on Wikipedia:Domaneab#User:Belgian man/Bwieme peij. Ta'arawong, Belgian man 18:44, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

Continents[edit source]

Hi CdaMVvWgS, is there any certainty about the continent's names yet? Ta'arawong, Belgian man 19:21, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

"Europe" -> "Iurop", "Asia" -> "Eija", "Africa" -> "Aprika", "Antarctica" -> "Antarketika". "America" becomes "Merika", but I'm not sure yet, how we should call "South America" and "North America", since there are no words for north, east, south and west. For "Central America" we could take "Merika iyugaga", but I'm not sure of this, and we still need a translation for "Oceania", because "Otereiriya" ("Australia") is just the country and doesn't cover the whole region. We'll see what Meibitobure means to this question. Ekamawir omo -- CdaMVvWgS 05:10, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks.
It seems that he doesn't contribute anymore... By the way, please give me a sign when I may work at the country's. Ta'arawong, Belgian man 16:44, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Maybe he is in vacation (like me, as I'll be in vacation the next two weeks)? We should really wait for his comments until we can make the new country articles and the country list article. Ekamawir omo -- CdaMVvWgS 18:19, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
OK. And what about User:Belgian man/Bwiema peij and User:Artur Lion/Bwiema peij? Should we adopt one of these as official main page or not? Belgian man 13:23, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
Both proposals should be enhanced and improved a bit. But in my opinion, we should take your proposal with Artur's introduction included. And all English words should be in brackets "()". In my opinion, that would be the best solution. Ekamawir omo -- CdaMVvWgS 18:39, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
OK, I'll see what I can do. Today not, I am busy with the Dutch Wiktionary: I've just added 223 new languages there... Belgian man 21:11, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Babel[edit source]

Hi CdaMVvWgS, would it be possible to use Babel-templates, please? It would be nice if each administrator would use them. I asked Meibitobure too. Belgian man 10:30, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

Done. Ekamawir omo -- CdaMVvWgS 16:16, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

Wikizine[edit source]

Hi, I am w:nl:gebruiker:Walter of the dutch Wikipedia. I am writing you because your are listed as ambassador of your wiki. I have something to say that I think you will find useful and possibly others of your wiki also.

You know it is not easy for the members of a local wiki to be informed about what is going on in the higher levels of the Wikimedia family. This because of the language problem and the high level of fragmentation of places where you can find information.

I am now making a weekly news letter (Wikizine) that attempts to provide the news of the Wikimedia projects. The concept is to list only a very short description of the news an give the relevant url to the subject. I want it to be short, only give the news that is important for all projects. The target audience include the ambassadors. It is for people who are interested in what it going on outside there own wiki. I emphasize on the news that is practical-technical. The information comes form several "news"-pages on several wikis, the mailinglists and IRC. There will be news I can not discover. If you have news found somewhere or from you own wiki please let my know. wikizine AT wikipedia.be

I can only create one version in something that supposed to be English. I count on the readers to inform there local wiki about the news in there own language.

Wikizine is send by use of the mailinglist Announce-l. It is only used for this. So people can subscribe without being swamped by emails like the lists.

http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo/announce-l

I hope that you and others of your wiki will subscribe to Wikizine and give feedback. So that Wikizine can become really a source where Wikimedians can find out what is going on. Greetings, w:nl:gebruiker:Walter PS: do not repond here. I will not see it.

Interwikis na:[edit source]

Hi CdaMVvWgS

Where are you? :-) How about the renomination of Ekakairu Naoero in the interwiki columns everywhere to Dorerin Naoero (capital for Dorerin please)? You had asked it on meta, didn't you, but where and when? Notice also that the interwiki:na must hold his place between my: and nah:. Ekamawir omo, Belgian man 13:49, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

I contacted user Tim Starling, but never heard anything again. If ever possible, the Nauruan words should generally not be written with capital letters, except for names (persons, places, etc.); same rules as in English). By the way, what happened to Meibitobure? Did he ever contribute anything...? Very sad that we have not at least one native Nauruan here as a user and regular contributor...! Ekamawir omo -- CdaMVvWgS 15:29, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Two times he said to me that he'll be back (studying for the moment). I don't know whether I still must believe it... We'll see. Otherwise we have to hope for another user to come... :( About the Dorerin/dorerin question now: In French, français is also without capital letter but in the interwiki columns a capital is used: It is for the beauty. It'll be nice if Dorerin would be written with capital letter isn't it (just like in interwikis fr:)? Ekamawir omo, Belgian man 16:23, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Wiktionary[edit source]

Probably wikt:nl:Gebruiker:GerardM will import a system to the Nauruan Wiktionary, so that not all lemmas are capitalised (only those who must be capitalised in a sentence). This better system is also used on Dutch, Italian, English, ... Wiktionaries. He also will offer an na: interwiki adding system (interwiki:na's on other editions + interwiki's of other editions on na:; I think) to his RobotGMwikt robot. Belgian man 16:27, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Sounds good. I'm currently too busy to work on the Wikimedia projects generally. I hope the Nauruan Wiktionary will get the same good start as here. Ekamawir omo -- CdaMVvWgS 16:46, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Trust in Wikipedia[edit source]

this is Cathy from Hong Kong working on a research about trust on Wikipedia. I wonder if you would kindly contact me at researchingmedia@gmail.com? I'd like to chat with you about Wikipedia of your language. Would you kindly drop me your email or IM (Skype, MSN, AIM or ICQ)? It wouldn't take more than ten minutes, but it would help enormously for us to understand the overall trust-based social landscape of Wikipedia. Thank you!

Nauruan Dj and L[edit source]

Hey... ehm, well, your username is not one I would remember that easily. Anyway, I was interested in your translations and I couldn't find out why you used the dj instead of a possible dy. The y is largely accepted in Nauruan (look in the Nauruan Watchtower for example). The j is not that common, it's actually the old version (as far as I know) of the y. Why won't you use dy for Germany? Dyermani sounds more logical to me, and I assume it also sounds better to the Nauruan people.

My other question is about the r you used so much. Nauruan has the l, not common though, but you decided to use the r. It sounds good to me, but why won't you use the l? The word for Bible is Bibel in Nauruan, which has the l in it. I suppose the Nauruans know what the l is like. :)

I'm willing to help you with Nauruan and stuff, as I'm interested in Nauruan myself as well. Hopefully you can answer my questions! ElMosquitoRápido (talk) 13:10, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Your admin status[edit source]

Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on nawiki, where you are an administrator. Since that wiki does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.

We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.
