Etang õgõg[edit source]

Please discuss first for large changes on main page... PS I appreciate your other changes very well. Belgian man 20:17, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Well, it wasn't very large in my opinion... It was ugly in my browser (Firefox 1.0), being wider than the white area... I only changed the border and background color, and made it look better in other browsers. But, of course, I'll ask first next time. =)
BTW, do you know if there are any actual Nauruans here, and who they are if so? I'd like to have contact with them...
Oh, and thanks... :D Jon Harald Søby (talk, contrib) 05:35, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
This seems to be a real mother-tongue Nauruan but he isn't here already for a few months... And User:CdaMVvWgS is learning Nauruan with a specialised book. Belgian man 11:17, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Vote[edit source]

Hi Jon Harald,
thanks for your vote to CdaMVvWgS; but the voting was still ended... Maybe this wiki is a bit strange but you should look to the end-date; it was mentioned. Belgian man 11:57, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

So your question can be: "If the vote was ended, why wasn't he a sysop yet?" ==> I wasn't a bureaucrat yet. Now I am (I'm voted for as bureaucrat). Now the two votings will deleted because they are ended. Greets, Belgian man 11:59, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Oops, I didn't notice... I just saw that the voting fields were still there, so I placed my vote. My bad. Jon Harald Søby (talk, contrib) 16:28, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Tekawa[edit source]

Tekawa isn't province or something, but city... Greets, Belgian man 13:46, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Oh… I thought it meant province. I'll change it whereever I've added it, then. Jon Harald Søby (talk, contrib) 17:54, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
Ok, that would be a great job :-) I think you did it only at Norway and New Zealand, didn't you? Belgian man 10:05, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, as far as I can remember, I haven't done it anywhere else. «Distric» is the Nauruan word for «district», right? Jon Harald Søby (talk, contrib) 13:49, 20 July 2005 (UTC)
I think so, but I'm not sure. I use almost itubwang (= part). Belgian man 11:38, 21 July 2005 (UTC)

Sysop[edit source]

You're a sysop now, congratulations. Belgian man 17:35, 24 July 2005 (UTC)

Thank you very much. =) Jon Harald Søby (talk, contrib) 19:39, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

Image[edit source]

You can not imagine how happy I am with the own-Nauruan-wiki-logo! Congratulations for the good work! Belgian man 17:15, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

No problem. ;-) / Jon Harald Søby 11:39, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

Anidenit[edit source]

Hi Jon, where have you found the information that "anidenit" (?) is the same as "aniden ian" (flag of), please? Ekamawir Omo, Belgian man 12:45, 10 September 2005 (UTC)

On one of the new language pages, it was said that [some word] with the prefix -it meant "[some word] of his". Supposing that "his" in the context may also mean "its" or "her" (as is the case with other languages), anidenit would mean "The flag of Norway". It is better than "Flag in Norway" anyways, since there are a lot more flags in Norway than just the Norwegian flag… / Jon Harald Søby 13:03, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
OK, I'll add it to the Grammar Index. Belgian man 09:35, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

Hello Jon,

Interesting to find a norwegian here. I am the fourth generation Nauruan descended from the marriage between a Nauruan and a Norwegian, THomas Hansen. There is also the Norwegian John Olsson who established a large family here. Hansen has over 600 descendants here, and Olsson around 400.

Nice to see you here.

Wow, that's very interesting! I had no idea. Great information, actually, I'll add it to the Norwegian article now.
So, is your surname Hansen, or has the name changed in 4 generations? / Jon Harald Søby 15:14, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

Hello Jon,

No, we are no longer called Hansen. Hansen had 7 children, 3 girls and four boys. The boys descendants took their fathers names as their surnames. But there are more than a few of Thomas Hansen's descendants called Hansen, THomas or either Capitano or the Nauruanised "Gabwidangang". But the Olsson surname is very strong here. John Olsson had, i think, a dozen children and was teh most successful of the European traders here.

Another thing, Nauru and Norway have the same constitution day (May 17). These are the only countries to have this constitution day. / Jon Harald Søby 17:43, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

That is very interesting.

Language[edit source]

Moved from ipadress:

Hi anon user. Do you know the word Languages in Naoero? I am not good at this language so excuse me for my stupidness. I only want to make the Bwiema peij a better page. Geograaf a.k.a. Netherlands girl 11:31, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

This is me, forgot to log in. I'm pretty sure that language is dorerin. / Jon Harald Søby 11:32, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
Ok, and what do you think of it? Is it better than the current main page? And just only one question. Do you know the word in Naoero for All Wikipedia's? Geograaf a.k.a. Netherlands girl 11:58, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
Yes. There are however a few other main page suggestions, namely User:Belgian man/Bwiema peij and User:Artur Lion/Bwiema peij… / Jon Harald Søby 12:08, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
Wow your fast. I was testing the template stub for possible errors and you made a change very quick. Well the test failed so ill restore the old version. Geograaf a.k.a. Netherlands girl 12:18, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

Interwikis[edit source]

Hi Jon

Why did you delete the interwikis... It was my intention to have, only on na:, interwikis to all other Wikipedias. Isn't/wasn't it nice? Belgian man 21:09, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

The interwiki box was three times as big as the main page itself, so it looked quite messy. I only included Austronesian languages, e.g. languages related to Nauruan, plus the 10 biggest Wikipedias. Most other languages are completely unrelated to people who know Nauruan… / Jon Harald Søby 21:13, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
It can perfectly be that Limburgian or Chuvash is more unrelated to a Nauruan then Malagasy or French... Other reasons are that on other pages (e.g. Iran), the interwiki column (NOW) is also much longer then the article information itself (so it is likely to give on each page all interwikis), and that the Bwieme peij probably will be doubled in the future, with information ranked by theme like on User:Artur Lion/Bwiema peij. Belgian man 14:22, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, then it can have more interwikis. And on Iran, that is another matter, as the other versions contain information on the subject. On the main page, however, the interwikis simply referred to other languages, of which most had no affiliation to Nauruan (or even any content!). / Jon Harald Søby 14:36, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
I'll collect all the interwikis in my User namespace until the Main page is bigger. Belgian man 16:57, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
OK. But they're still in the history, so when it gets bigger, we can just add them from there… / Jon Harald Søby 11:59, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
Indeed but if the Main page will get much changes before its real extension it'll be easier just to pick up it from the page I just made. Belgian man 13:56, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Sorry[edit source]

Sorry I just removed your edit... I try to do what I can do to add your modifications back. I was in an edit conflict with an Anonymous and didn't know it was you. Belgian man 12:36, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

No problem. =) / Jon Harald Søby 12:40, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
OK, I just set the candidate sections back because users/admins must know that whenever they want, they can stand for the admin- or bureaucratship. Belgian man 12:44, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
Ah, yes of course. Removing that was a mistake; it should definately be there. / Jon Harald Søby 12:49, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Steward[edit source]

Congratulations with you stewardship Jon... I read it in the Wikizine today and saw you were accepted by 100% of the voters :-) Belgian man 16:08, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you! =) / Jon Harald Søby 16:22, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Deleting articles[edit source]

Hi Jon, to avoid future discussions about whether an article should stay or not - such discussions happen frequently on bigger editions - I want to ask you to wait for two weeks before deleting an article nominated in the "normal" sections of Wikipedia:Animwen iyababa. Greets, Belgian man 12:04, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Re:Native speaker[edit source]

Greetings Jon Harald Søby!

Unfortunately I am do not speak Nauruan. However, I find this website to be quite useful.
